Questions to ask your Dog Groomer

Finding the right groomer for you and your little one can be a daunting process. You may want to ask the following questions to see what type of a groomer they are and how they will treat your best friend whilst they’re in the groomer’s care.

Do you use crates?

There are a couple of crates in the salon but we don’t like to use them. If we need to pop to the toilet we can’t leave a dog on the table so they can stay in the crate as it’s a safe place. If a customer is early dropping off or late collecting then a dog may have to go into the crate so it’s not a distraction to other dogs in the salon.

Are drying cupboards used?

We don’t believe in drying cupboards and you won’t find one in the salon. That’s all we’ll say about drying cupboards as we dislike them.

What if my dog is nervous or anxious?

If we know the dog is nervous then we can book them in for a longer appointment. That way we can go at their pace and provide breaks from the table when they need it. We want them to gain confidence and be relaxed throughout their time in the salon.

What payment types to you accept?

We accept Cash, Card Payment (via our card reader) and Bank transfer (funds to clear our account before leaving the salon).

Can you re-arrange my appointment?

Please let us know as soon as you can so we can offer your appointment to a pooch in need of a fresh haircut. We can then get you booked in for a later date more convenient for you.

I've got more than one dog, can you groom them all?

Save time dropping off and collecting one dog at a time, all of your dogs can be dropped off together as long as they aren’t aggressive towards other dogs. They may need to get crated for their safety and the safety of others if they become a distraction.

What if my dog has ticks & fleas?

We can attempt to remove the ticks for you (as long as there aren’t too many).
If your dog has fleas, please book them in for the last appointment of the day. We will use a medicated flea shampoo and will have to ‘flea bomb’ the salon to prevent our other customers from picking them up – there may be an additional charge for this.

How long will the groom take?

We’ll book the appointment for the amount of time we’ll think it’ll take but in all honesty this is just an estimate. Keep an ear out for your phone as we may get in contact with you if you can collect your freshly pampered pooch early. Likewise please don’t be offended if we ask you to come back in 15minutes. If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.

How do you groom an old dog?

Much like a nervous dog, we go at the pace the dog wants to go. Being on a grooming table is a tiring experience for pooch in their golden years. We’ll take them off the table and have a mooch about when they need it, or if they fancy a little lay down they can get comfy on the sofa.

What if my dog has a disability?

Let us know when booking the appointment and we can talk about any limitations your little one may have. We aim to work with you and to keep your doggy happy. Some of our customers are blind, deaf or have had limb amputations, we treat each dog as an individual.

I think my dog has sensitive skin?

We have shampoos that are specifically manufactured for those with sensitive skin.

Can I watch?

As much as we’d love to have you watch us work our magic, more often that not the dog will look for you to help them get off the table. As you can imagine, a distracted dog can be quite difficult to groom so we respectifully would rather that the owners drop off their dog and then leave the salon. You would be surprised how quickly dogs adjust to their owners leaving.

If you have a particularly reactive dog, then we may ask if you can be at table-side to help keep them calm throughout the groom.

What if I can't collect them straight away?

As we don’t like to use the crates more than neccesary we do ask that you collect promptly at the suggested pick up time as our next customer will be arriving and we won’t be able give our full attention to more than one dog. If it becomes a regular occurance we may need to add a late collection fee to try and keep people on time.

My dog's fur is badly knotted, what can be done?

Knots can cause discomfort to dogs and we’ll try our best to break up the knots, but if that process causes distress then there may be no option but to shave these out. There can be additional charges or even a full ‘shave-off’ if there are too many.

I have a reactive dog, will there be other dogs in?

That’s not a problem, we’d first ask that you bring them in for a meet and greet with us when the salon is empty. This way they can get to know the salon a little bit, get some treats and we can talk about their needs. When it comes to booking an appointment, for the safety of everyone we’ll make sure that they are the only dog in the salon. This may mean that the appointment is in a couple of weeks instead of a couple of days and either starts early or late in the day. If needed we may also ask if you can stay for the duration of the appointment to help keep them calm.
